Al Wiley, Vice President, Business Development – Canada and the Northeast U.S., NextEra Energy Resources, LLC (“NextEra”)
Al has spent nearly 30 years working in the energy sector in the US and Canada, including nearly 13 years with NextEra. NextEra is the leading owner and operator of wind energy in North America with an installed capacity of nearly 8,500 megawatts from more than 80 projects located in 17 U.S. states and 3 Canadian provinces. In his current role, he is responsible for business development activities in Canada as well as in the Northeast U.S. NextEra is currently developing eight wind projects totaling 615 megawatts under Ontario’s Feed-in-Tariff program and is actively developing projects in four other Canadian provinces.
Prior to assuming this latest role, Al was Vice President of Business Management for Next Era’s Midwest and Canada regions overseeing all business issues associated with the Company’s 3,700 megawatts of generation assets in the region, including two nuclear power plants (1,500 MW) and 27 wind farms (2,200 MW). In addition, he has held the roles of Director, Business and Regulatory Affairs, Regional Business Director, and General Manager while with NextEra.
Prior to joining NextEra, Al spent 17 years with Central Maine Power Company in a variety of roles, the last of which was as Managing Director of Generation, overseeing the Company’s generation business which consisted of more than 1,600 megawatts produced from hydro, biomass, nuclear and oil-fired facilities.
Al has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine, an M.B.A. from the University of Southern Maine, and completed a Nuclear Reactor Technology Course for Utility Executives from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
