David McFadden

David is counsel in Gowling WLG's Toronto office where he acts for corporations, municipalities and utilities involved in the generation, transmission, distribution, marketing and financing of energy.

David is the Chair of the Canadian and International Infrastructure Advisory Boards of Fengate Capital. Fengate Capitals Infrastructure Funds invest in real assets, including solar, biomass and hydroelectric generation.

David has played a key role in a number of initiatives relating to the power industry. He served for over a decade as Chair of the Stakeholders Alliance for Electricity Competition and Customer Choice, a broad coalition of business and energy-related organizations.

David served as one of Canada's representatives on the Electric System Working Group of the Joint Canada-U.S. Task Force established to investigate the power blackout that hit Ontario and the United States in August 2003. Also in 2003, David was a member of the Ontario Government's Electricity Conservation and Supply Task Force, which issued its final report in January 2004.

In 2012, David served as a member of the Ontario Distribution Sector Review Panel appointed by the Minister of Energy, which reviewed Ontario's electricity distribution system and made recommendations to improve the efficiency of the sector.

In 2014, David served as Chair of the Independent Review Panel appointed by Toronto Hydro to review its response to the ice storm in late December 2013.

David currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Collus PowerStream Corp. and is a member of the Smart Grid Forum of the Independent Electricity System Operator.

David is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Energy Association and is also a member of the Board of the Energy Council of Canada. In addition, he serves on the Council for Clean and Reliable Electricity and the Advisory Council of the Waterloo Institute of Sustainable Energy.
