On April 5th, Ontario will be in the thick of a provincial election campaign. The Liberals will have put the finishing touches on a provincial budget which is expected to be a key element of their election platform. The NDP have also announced some significant key planks of their coming platform. And the Progressive Conservatives have chosen a new leader who has begun articulating possible platform positions.|
The OEA has decided to take a different approach with our election panel. By choosing three veteran former Ministers, we are going to move past the talking points of current MPPs or campaign spokespeople, and dig into the issues that will drive the election, and discuss the realities of governing versus campaigning.
Moderated by Steve Paikin, Anchor of “The Agenda” on TVO, these panelists will explore the latest issues facing the upcoming election:
- Dwight Duncan, former Finance Minister and Energy Minister
- Ernie Eves, former Premier and Finance Minister
- Floyd Laughren, former Finance Minister, Deputy Premier and Chair of the Ontario Energy Board
Come join us for an insightful discussion from these three former Ministers and MPPs. All have had direct experience with energy issues and have been Ministers of Finance, so will be able to speak to their importance in this election, and the challenges of balancing voter pressures for low rates with fiscal realities. However, the panel will discuss all the key issues and factors that are likely to be important as the campaigns are getting into full swing. It promises to be a timely and interesting discussion.
