Ms. Thomas is a proud citizen of the Seneca Nation, Bear Clan. Ms. Thomas was fortunate to be raised with her culture and traditions at Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, which allows her to bring a culturally-sensitive and critical perspective to the practice of law. Ms. Thomas is an experienced corporate lawyer, providing incisive guidance and specialized legal expertise to Indigenous Nations and Indigenous-owned businesses and organizations.
Ms. Thomas articled and began her early years of practice with Aird & Berlis. She has been successfully managing her own law firm for over 15 years at Six Nations of the Grand River and recently returned to Aird & Berlis as Affiliated Independent Counsel.
Ms. Thomas practices Corporate/Commercial law, Energy law and Aboriginal law, and is committed to assisting Indigenous Nations with Nation building through sustainable economic development that is respectful of their cultural values. Her experience includes acting for Indigenous Nations in negotiations with resource companies and federal, provincial and municipal governments regarding protection of Aboriginal and Treaty rights and economic development. Ms. Thomas has also advised Indigenous Nations and Indigenous-owned companies on energy projects in Ontario, and on establishing electric utilities.
