CLIMATE CHANGE & GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Come join us on January 30th for a discussion on the challenges and opportunities being created in the transition to a low-carbon economy in Ontario. The provincial government is currently developing numerous greenhouse gas emissions reduction programs and strategies. These include initiatives to increase building efficiency, reduce carbon in fuels through renewable natural gas, reduce transportation emissions with the electrification of transportation and compressed natural gas for heavy transportation, and increased customer engagement in emissions reductions.

The Honourable Chris Ballard took the reins of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in July of 2017.  He will be leading the implementation of the government’s roughly $8 billion five-year Climate Change Action Plan. After six months in his role, Minister Ballard will provide a status update on CCAP implementation and where he sees it going.  A key element of the government’s plan was the creation of the Green Ontario Fund (GreenON), a not-for-profit provincial agency, to invest proceeds from Ontario’s carbon market into programs that help individuals and businesses reduce GHG emissions and use cleaner technology to power their homes and workplaces. Joining Minister Ballard will be the Chair of GreenON, Parminder Sandhu, who will discuss GreenON initiatives for Ontario’s energy sector, and a preview of their vision and plans for the future.
